How not to die from sitting too much (GIFS)

You shouldn’t sit down for hours at a time, because if you do, you’re digging yourself an early grave.

We all know that too much sitting around is bad for your health. But, a new study shows that even if you exercise on a regular basis, sitting on your hind end for long periods is completely terrible for you. Researchers found that if you sit for more than four or five hours a day, your risk of type 2 diabetes, heart disease and some types of cancers goes sky high.

This is a huge bummer, especially for those of us who sit on our rumps all the time because we have a sedentary job. And this means that even if you’re awesome and hit the gym a few times a week, it’s not enough to erase the increased risk that chair riding heaps upon you.

You’re going to have to get moving, one way or another, or risk a visit from the Grim Reaper well before you’re ready.

1. For starters, every half hour or so, get up and move around for a few minutes.

2. Love TV? Stand up while you watch and play along with the actors.

3. Ignore those who give you side eye.

4. Recognize that sitting down all the time feels awful.
